This course furthers the students' development of advanced skills in differential interventions with a variety of systems. There will be a concentration on organizations and communities as systems for assessment and intervention. Community practice approaches are discussed based upon an understanding of the elements and dynamics of stressful life conditions, systematically tested effectiveness, and applicability to the strengths and needs of particular vulnerable populations within a community.- Teacher: Dawn Apgar

This course examines the dynamic interactions between the mezzo and macro systems and the social environment. While HBSE I (SW 601) had a major focus upon the micro perspective of human behavior, this course has a major focus upon the macro perspective or the larger social environment of human behavior. In doing so, specific attention will be given to the structural dimensions, strength, all forms of diversity and oppression, and the impact of social, cultural and economic forces as salient influences on human behavior.
