The reading practicum will provide an opportunity to work with individual clients of various ages and from different backgrounds, who have specific strengths and needs with reading and writing. An individual instructional program connected with the state standards will be developed based upon the data from multiple assessments. Lessons will be planned that focus on effective strategies and necessary skills that promote successful learning. Reflective, research-based logs will be kept along with the completion of four requirements, i.e. position paper brochure, video taping critique, presentation, and client portfolios. Parents will be invited for an interview at the beginning of the course, and they will be invited at the end for a celebration and conference. A seminar will be held after each class to discuss and share the experiences, research, resources, planning, strategies, etc. to help guide you through the course and to help you become an exemplary reading specialist.
